ALCOLA – Clarion County Fair organizers have always said fairgoers can find treasures around every corner at the annual event.

Now, fairgoers can really find treasure, if they know where to look.

In an effort to get attendees of next week’s fair to visit all areas of the grounds, organizers have announced that one special prize will be hidden on the grounds each day, Monday through Saturday, July 26-31.

A gold envelope will be placed somewhere on the grounds after 3 p.m. each day, and all paid patrons will have a chance to find the envelope and return it to the fair office where they will be able to choose from unmarked envelopes containing one of the following prizes:

• A pair of tickets to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Jan. 18 game against the Detroit Red Wings at the new Consul Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

• A pair of complimentary track seats to the Aug. 26 Darius Rucker and Kellie Pickler concert at the Crawford County Fair.

• Tickets for Kennywood or Sandcastle parks.

• And three prizes of $100 in cash.

The prizes are sponsored by anonymous donors.

Fair volunteer Ann Kopnitsky said that the gold envelopes will be “hidden” in plain sight, and that nothing will need to be moved or emptied to find them.

“You won’t need a ladder; you won’t need to go searching through the restrooms or garbage cans,” she said. “The envelopes may be in one of the exhibit buildings, or the barns, or at a food vendor, or the grandstand or the sponsor tent — anywhere in the main grounds area.”

Kopnitsky said the promotion is an effort to get fairgoers to take the time to visit new parts of the fair that they may not normally visit. And, she hopes, it may attract more people to the fair this year.

“It’s going to be fun,” she said. “You won’t know what you’ve won until you open that mystery envelope.”

In the event that one day’s envelope is not found, it will remain in place until it is found. A new envelope will be hidden on the fairgrounds each day.

“If one day’s prize is not claimed, fairgoers on the next day will have multiple chances to win,” Kopnitsky said.

The winners will be announced on the fair’s website the following day.
